Some "glitch" disabled the "n" part of my Toshiba wireless adapter. The PC saw lots of wi-fi signals but not my ISP's router. Disabled the device adapter, plugged in the dongle, set it up, and got better signal/performance than with the original. Yea!
Purchased this product for my husband's computer when it wasn't receiving a very good internet signal even in the house. Installed this little USB wi-fi adapter in a matter of about 3 minutes (to upload the program the first time). It picks up wi-fi from an incredible distance. He has full strength anywhere in the house and he says his computer has never been faster. What he really likes is that it came with a cord so that if he doesn't want to have the adapter sticking out of his computer at the moment he can attach the cord to the adapter and the other end to his computer for extra versatility. It has been a real easy fix to what I thought would be a tough problem! Great product!
The product works fine.
But based on review photos here, and other internet reviews, I expected the adapter to include a USB3 extension cable. It did not. Although I could achieve connectivity with the adapter plugged directly into the back of my PC, throughput was much lower than expected (approx 10MB/s for large file transfers). I ordered a 6ft USB3 extension to relocate the adapter, and throughput jumped to ~ 40MB/s (320Mbps). Windows reports link speed: 520Mbps @ about -70dbm signal. I'm connecting to an Asus RT-AC68U about 30 feet away, through 2 floors and multiple walls. So 40MB/s is acceptable.
Fast connection even with multiple walls/floors between this WiFi adapter and my router. Installation on my Macbook was super easy and fast - essentially just plug it in and go! Note that this does not come with a USB extension cable! For some reason I thought it did, and I didn't realize how critical this would be. On my 2013 Macbook Pro, this TP-link WiFi adapter blocks either the headphone jack or the HDMI port when plugged into either of the USB ports... So now I'm ordering a USB extension cable! This will also help with the issue of it sticking out from the computer in a dangerous way!
TP-Link support assistant (Jarvis Zuo) continued to provide help to get my TP-Link Archer Tu4 USB wi-fi adapter operating under an older Windows OS (Windows XP). They provided a driver file that finally did the trick - emailing me several times until we got it connected. Their web sites driver did not work (although it stated it was for Windows XP) but Jarvis Zuo emailed me detailed instructions on how to install the driver from another one of their vendors (they emailed me said driver). I highly recommend TP-Link products - and most important is their dedicated tech support.
